MOM MINUTES by Earlene

Good Morning Everyone!! Today is WEDNESDAY and that means MOM MINUTES! Helene, yesterday morning, I had a moment of panic, because all of the sudden, as I was in the living room, I thought, "Oh No! Is today Wednesday?" Good Grief....am I EVER going to get my days straight! HA!

Did you know that every time you spend a dollar, and you put the leftover change into a jar, pretty soon you'll have quite a bit of cash? I started by putting my "little" change in the jar; you know, those seemingly unsubstantial dimes, nickels, and pennies. Pretty soon, I had an "aha!" moment, after seeing the amount build up, so I started adding the quarters. Before I knew it, the jar was full, and I had about $10.00 to take to the bank. Hello Savings Account! I realized then that small change DOES add up.

This leads me to recommend a worthwhile read to my Mom Minute Readers: It is, "Small Change," by Susan and Larry Terkel (you can type the title into the Amazon search-widget, on the Right hand side of this blog)

As their book states, " This is worth repeating: small change adds up. Empty your small change into a jar every day, and watch the total add up over time. Make small changes in your daily habits—such as your meals or snacks, your relationships, your work, or your leisure—and watch those changes gradually accumulate into a much healthier, happier, and more satisfying life."

So, my tip for today is save that small change and watch it grow....say "I Love You" to that special person and watch what happens, save your diet by NOT eating that dessert and watch the scale go down! Like my own Mother used to say, "Inch by Inch, Life's a Cinch, Yard by Yard, Life is Hard."

Just take it one step at a time!

  1. We have a big, glass change jar and that normally goes towards our vacations every 2-3 years. It's amazing how much adds up!

  3. Mom is so smart! I started doing this years ago. When I finally decided to take my big jars full of change to that machine (you know, the one that counts it for you) I had almost $400.00!! Wow! Who would have ever thought!
