TEEN SON + MENISCUS TEAR = ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY

Well, today's the day that teen son has his knee problem fixed. He has been experiencing what they call "mechanical symptoms," and an MRI verified what the doctor suspected: a meniscus tear. Thankfully, this type of tear tends to respond best to surgical treatment.

A mechanical symptom is caused by the meniscus physically impeding the normal movement of the knee. Common "mechanical symptoms" include:
  • Locking of the knee (unable to bend)
  • Inability to fully straighten the knee

So, we are off to the Small-Town Hospital that is next to our small-town, at 7:00 am, to check in at Out-Patient. The surgery is only supposed to take between 20-45 minutes, depending on the severity of the tear, then he'll be in recovery for about an hour. After that, they'll take him back to an Out Patient area where they will monitor him and we'll do the "check out" paperwork.

Please keep us in your thoughts today and pray for a good outcome!

  2. Hoping everything proceeds without a hitch!

My daughter had this same surgery a few years ago and now says she'd have it again in a heartbeat if necessary on the other knee. It was really no big deal...a couple of days of pain and pain meds, but actually a much easier recovery than she expected and good results afterward.

  4. Hi there! Thank you for all of your comments Lori, Annie Jones, and SonyaAnn (you really pray?..just teasing...God loves U and So Do I! :)

His surgery went well and we were home by 1:00pm. He is propped up on the couch, with an ice bag on the wrapped knee and pain meds in him, and he is doing okay for now. He even ate an Arbys Roast Beef sandwich on the way home!

I told him that I blogged about him, and he said, "Oh Brother!" :)
