MOM MINUTES by Earlene

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, and
we have all (hopefully) survived, now is the time to start thinking about how we will all manage Christmas. This is a tough time of the year, with layoffs, downsizing, large health care expenses, and a gloom-and-doom economy. It is enough to make me want to just stay in bed with the covers over my head!

Have you ever heard of a Happiness Box? This is a neat thing to do with your children, or even for yourself, and it is sure to brighten your day.

First, find a small box (a shoebox works great) and decorate it to your heart's content. Next, find pictures of family and friends and decide who will go into your box. Not everyone will go in...only those who have brought you happiness.

Think about places you have been to and what made you happy about it. Write it down and put it in your box. Have a favorite childhood Christmas memory or a treasured recipe? Add it to the box! Remember to add things that make you happy or evoke pleasant memories.

This doesn't have to be completed in a day, a week, or even a month. It can sit on your shelf and get added to as time goes by. It merely serves as a visible reminder that happiness can exist in and around us, and that sometimes we just need a reminder.

Start your own box today and see what happens!

  1. I love the idea of a Happiness Box. Sounds like a great crafty idea to do with the kids.

  2. Been battling the cold from hell, cough, etc for three weeks now. Ever so slowly recovering. Alex had it two weeks, now my son has it and I am slowly getting over it and I do mean, slowly.

    Love mom minutes this week.

And for your other post-we just adopted a yellow lab who had been at the shelter twice. He is great except for his quirk fighting with our elderly dog over the food bowl. I don't want to take him back. He is a sweetheart otherwise.
