THANKFUL THURSDAY

So, I am sitting here, listening to the rain, and realizing that even though I may not have the biggest or the best-est house, I have a roof over my head that doesn't leak, windows and doors that keep out the rain, good siding to protect me from the elements, and four walls that are strong and sturdy. My "mansion here on earth" is sufficient enough for my daily needs.....and for that I am very, very thankful.

Too often we get caught up in the rat race of "wants" and we don't focus on all that we have. So, I am going to list some of my things I am thankful for:
  1. My Father in Heaven who knows me and still loves me!
  2. Jesus who is my Everything!!
  3. My husband who goes to work everyday to provide for us
  4. My children who are amazing :)
  5. Hot coffee in the morning
  6. Warm and cozy bed at night
  7. A vehicle that gets me where I need to go
  8. Money in the checking account to buy the groceries that I need for this week
  9. More money in the checking account to buy groceries (My teen son can EAT!)
  10. Did I mention money in the checking account?? lol

Anyway, that is my list....A partial list, to be sure...there are so many other things that I am thankful and grateful for. I looked up "how to cultivate a thankful heart" and I found this awesome site at just between us. The title is, "Lessons in Being Thankful - Twelve ways to cultivate a thankful heart," and I found it to be a worthwhile article to read. I really liked this paragraph:

"Give your attention to those whose lives make your particular blessings stand out by comparison. Have you been grumbling that you can’t afford a new couch for the living room? Go serve in a soup kitchen for the homeless. Have you found it hard to thank God for your boss? Talk a few minutes with the folks in the unemployment line. Do you complain about minor aches and pains? Pray for someone with a terminal illness. Your gratitude to God is sure to grow."

What are you thankful for on this Thankful Thursday? :)

    This is so true!
And was brought home to me yesterday, as I sat and helped my B-I-L work out a budget plan to get him from being overdrawn on his account each month to actually starting to save a bit of money and cover all the bills he needs to pay. He lost 1/4th of his income 3 months ago and has been spending beyond his means and has depleted his savings to $32....all without telling anyone what was going on. When the money ran out he finally acknowledged his plight and accepted my help. I am thrilled to be able to be in a position to help with groceries(thanks to the stockpile)and to guide him into a plan so he can meet his expenses. It's a blessing to me as I try to keep a humble spirit about it and not approach this from a position of superiority.

  2. I am so glad that you are able to do this for your BIL. That is awesome how you put this, "It's a blessing to me as I try to keep a humble spirit about it and not approach this from a position of superiority."

God will bless you for this! :)
